The Pursuit of Happyness

“…and this little part of my life, I call it happyness.”

That was the quote said by Chris Gardner, roled by Will Smith, in the end of the movie. I watched it just 2 hours ago at my friend’s home. This movie successfully controlled my emotion along with the progression of the scenes. I was about to cry. But my tears couldn’t really fall—I don’t know. Usually it’s so easy for me to splash my tears everywhere when I watch sad movies or read sad stories…ha-ha.

Yeah it was a great movie. Based on true story about the man who tried hard to pursue happiness. So many unfortunate things come to his life—even once he and his son had to sleep in terminal’s toilet—but in the end he successfully build his career in being stock broker. Though I still have no idea why it’s titled ‘happyness’, not ‘happiness’. What’s the meaning of the ‘y’?

Will Smith played with his son, Christopher Smith and this 5 years old child was soooooooooooooooo cute…!!! He will be a great man just like his Papa. Hoh… I always like Will Smith. Even though I’ve just seen some of his movies. Especially in I am Legend. It’s just…oh I don’t know. His face, his charisma, his expression, his body language, and all the way he acts, it deeply attracts me. Furthermore, he reminds me to someone. Somebody successfully crowded up my mind with something unimportant, long long time ago at junior high school.

Dark-skinned men always have their own aura. For me, they are interesting in their own way. They always look stronger, more mature, more charismatic, look like they always ready with everything they gonna face in life. Oh of course NOT ALL the ‘dark men’ seem so, but yeah—many of them.

Hmm…still on my way of pursuing happyness…hohoho

Dan SSAW pun berakhir…

MA-NA-JE-MEN!!! DUNG DUNG-DUNG DUNG DUNG!!!

Heyyy believe me guys Prodi Manajemen jadi JUARA UMUM SSAW 2009!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woaaa I’m lost in euforia!!! Pengin rasanya teriak2: “Hey kalian2 Ma Chungers smua! Liat nih, biar Manajemen cool, adem ayem, kalo pertandingan keliatan sepi, biar orangnya banyak tapi supporter-nya dikit, biar kita gak punya yel2 yang bikin panas suasana…TAPI KITA MENANG!!!”

Fyyyuuuhhh…

Kmaren waktu Closing Party kita Trio Jurnalis SSAW dateng bertiga, aq, Brian, en Eva…nebeng mobilnya Brian a.k.a. Anggi. Dateng tepat waktu jam 18.00 kurang…eh acaranya molor mpe jam stenga 7 lebih. Chuappe deu…T.T

Bisa dimaklumi sih. Soalnya besoknya kan SinCia…jadi anak2 mungkin pada sembahyang dulu. Waktu prodi show Ersa tampil maen piano, Anita en Dinda nyanyi.

Seingetku belum pernah aq dengerin lagu sampe mau nangis kayak dengerin Kak Wendy nyanyiin Home-nya Michael Buble. SUMPAH KEREN BANGET. Aq menghayati banget dengerinnya dan begitu terharu sampe nyaris menitikkan air mata!!! (lebayyy…hohoho)

I really2 impressed by the way he sang! Jarang banget soalnya suara kayak gitu dimiliki penyanyi amatir…kalaupun suatu saat dia bakal jadi profesional, seenggaknya aq uda berkesempatan dengerin lagunya gratis…hohoho

Gak Cuma Kak Wendy, nyaris semua peserta Singing Contest tadi tampil ciamik. Kalo jadi jurinya aq pasti bingung…!!! Hoh kasian Bu Titiek… Anak IT ngeluarin peserta paling banyak. Semuanya keren2. Empat jam aq duduk manis di Theatre Room rasanya kayak nonton konser diva-divo top totally FREE, hohoho… Menurutku Ma Chung punya BEGITU BANYAK talenta musik dan vokal. Kalo bikin kontes intern Ma Chung Idol gitu pasti keren banget yah…!!!

Tapi yah…begitulah. Selera musik Ma Chungers nyaris seragam. Ah, tapi biarlah. Musik mellow asik kok. Mengharukan. Kalo bener2 dihayati pengin nangis rasanya dengerin…kayak ada yang bikin hatiku gemeteran (hoh lebayyy lagi…XD)

Tapi tadi Pak Renald sempet mengguncang dengan permainan gitar listrik-nya. Mungkin dia salah satu bakat rock en metal-nya Ma Chung. Hoh…this campus is so FULL OF MUSIC…I really love it!!!

“I think there is no relation between young age and responsibility. So it’s OK to marry in young age as long as you’re mature enough.”

Kalo nggak salah itulah the last sentence yang aq ucapkan sebelum sesi debat berakhir. Kelompok kami menang. Lagian baru babak penyisihan…

Yep, tadi aq baru aja melaksanakan lomba debate pertamaku…yah meskipun Cuma intern sih. Bersama Felicia dan Sotong a.k.a. Steven, kami bertiga mewakili prodi Manajemen. As I told before, udah lama aq pengin ngrasain lomba debate. Waktu SMA pernah ditawarin tapi gak pernah berani…dan Cuma bisa ambil lomba2 ‘aman’ macam News Reading. Beberapa kali pernah latihan beneran di kelas, tapi inilah pertamakalinya ikut kompetisi, itupun bukan kompetisi ‘beneran’…hoh.

Secara keseluruhan seru. Kemarin chatting semaleman sama Sotong untuk ‘menimba ilmu’ tentang debate. Ni orang cukup berpengalaman. He taught me some tricks commonly used in debate. He has good capability in logical thinking. Sayang banget, waktu debate tadi kayaknya kita selalu kebagian motion yang gak enak. Misalnya waktu babak penyisihan kita dapet affirmative untuk motion ‘Marriage in young age is just fine’ (intinya gitu, lupa detilnya =p) Untungnya lawannya gak bagus2 amat, jadi kita bisa menang.

Waktu babak semifinal dapet lawan yang kuat plus motion yang gak enak. Klop deh. Kita dapet negative dengan motion ‘Smoking should be banned’. Susi and DBD were the strongest. Palagi si Susi tu kalo ngomong lagaknya sok ngartis bangettt, belom2 kita uda sensi smua liatnya…huahaha.

Gak se-logic waktu kita simulasi debate pas chatting kemarin. Masih tetep strong sih…tapi kayaknya ni tadi dia juga agak grogi. Entah kenapa. Mungkin karena motion kita emang gak seru dan we have no idea what to say. Tapi really I learn much from him.

Aq sendiri ngomong gak terlalu bagus. Masih terbata-bata. Masih hancur grammar-nya. Masih kalah jauh sama Nadia, Susilo, or DBD. Masih banyak yang harus diperbaiki. Masih butuh waktu untuk belajar…

BTW kapan aq bener2 liburan yah…

Hwooohhh. Ya jelas panas lah wa dengernya. Makanya wa bela2in tuh stay tune di situ mpe Suster Clinic manggung. Wa bela2in tuh mantengin hip-hop-nya KHM yang benernya gak keren2 amat.

Ternyata Suster Clinic emang gak mengecewakan. Rancak, melodis, seneng banget deh dengernya! Apalagi Mbak Melly smangat banget, stamina kuat mpe keringetan segala…hoh aq terbawa suasana!!!

Vokalisnya namanya Desta dan dia GILA. Suaranya benernya gak bagus2 amat, tapi dia bisa teriak keras2 ala vokalis underground gitu. Dan gayanya??? Metal abeeesss!!! Padahal dia cukup imut loh.

Hoh.

Abis Suster Clinic, bandnya Mas Andre SMOOTH manggung. Sesuai namanya, band ini ngebawain lagu2 kalem nan lembut ala Mocca or Ten 2 Five.

Nah kalo NTTS, hoh sumpah GILA ABIS. Ni band underground beratttt…!!! Liriknya gak bisa didengerin sama skali kecuali triakan2 gak jelas “Haaarrrggghhh!!! Hoooorrrgggghhh!!!” Vokalisnya kalo nyany sampe jungkir balik….ndlosor2 di panggung…asli kayak orang sakauww!! Dan tau gak abis bertingkah gila tu dia ngomong pa? “Yak Sodara2 smoga Tuhan selalu bersama kita….”

Kira2 jam 9 lebi maw pulang. Ternyata eh ternyata, KUNCI/KONTAK MOTOR wa ILANGGG!!! Hoh.

*hari yang aneh* -_-a

Pluralist…

Huff, finally I finished reading more than 100 pages of Chinese-Indonesian infos I’ve googled. In later days actually I searched for Imlek since I planned to write about this to welcome Chinese New Year at 26th January. But this morning I typed new keyword on Google and was amazed by how much I’ve got about Chinese-Indonesian matters.

My interest in Chinese-Indonesian community has increased since I entered Chinese-based University 6 months ago. (Though actually this interest is one of the reason to join this University). Reading so many essays, news, articles, and opinions written by Chinese, Western, or Indonesian, I’ve lighted in my way of understanding Chinese.

FYI, Chinese Indonesian (I like to say this rather than ‘Indonesian Chinese’) were divided mainly into 3 groups: Cina Baba, Cina Totok, and Qiao Sheng. Cina Baba tied more to Indonesian, Cina Totok to original Chinese, and Qiao Sheng to Dutch. But the last-mentioned group was no more exist in Indonesia after Independence Day.

I have Cina Totok friend in campus. Actually she never declare that but I knew from another friend. I was attracted to her since the first time we met—in the same class at English Intensive Course. After some discussion—some in class and mostly in campus’ site discussion forum—I found that we have some similarities. We both like studying languages. She speaks fluently in English and Japanese (of course she’s a LOT better than me). And though in some case we have opposing view of each other, but mainly we build a similar way of thinking. We both are independent girls.

Once I asked her to join an English Debate Contest with me in the same group, but then she said her grandma forbid her to join such an ‘outside-contest’. I was surprised at that time coz I thought she was dynamic-liberal girl…but then one of friend told me that, “Of course she’s forbidden…she’s Totok, anyway.”

Oh. Later I know that Totok Chinese is said to strongly grab their Chinese culture, including restricted activity for women. But I don’t see any image of Totok’s girl inside her. She’s mainly strong, independent, dynamic, ‘burning’, ‘hot-headed’, and many of modern women’s signs. Even she’s agnostic. She likes controversion. Seeing this fact, I found that in some case, Chinese Indonesian younger generation has changed.

And do you know what? I was surprised enough by the fact that most of my Chinese-descent friends are more ‘Javanese’ than me. Most of my classmates speaks Javanese so ‘medok’, including the ‘bad words’. Hoh. Even they spoke some words that I thought only known by lower-middle community of Javanese…hahaha.

In other side, as a pure Javanese I was undirectly blamed of my low knowledge about my own local language. My Chinese-descent senior once said the word ‘kerinan’ and I automatically asked, “Ha? What language is that?” I thought it’s Chinese but later I found that it’s Javanese high language (boso kromo) which means ‘kesiangan’ or wake up late. HAHAHA poor me!

According to my Chinese-descent friends in campus, actually I feel almost no difference to get along with them. So when I read the past journal about Chinese Indonesian history—the Jakarta riot in May 1998, for example—I feel that the situation has hugely changed now. No more discrimination. No more violence. They are better off even a lot better than the natives, hehehe.

One of my closest friend seems don’t really like that I maintain close-enough relationship with my Chinese-descent friends—for some reason that I don’t need to explain here. Hmm…the person is a bit extreme, actually. I’m not a kind of person who like to be in exclussive-introvert group and restrict myself from others. I don’t like living in homogen environment. I don’t like meeting with same people everyday. I don’t like ‘squaring’—pengkotakan, the term used to separate one group from another. If I could declare myself, then I will automatically say that I’m a pluralist.

Different people is interesting. If I have chance, I wanna be a backpacker and walk along this line earth, coming to places that I’ve only read in newspaper, speak the laguange I’ve only heard from songs, and meet the people I’ve only seen in movies. If I have chance, I want to have friends from all over the world—at least one in every country and share our opinion together. Being together with colourful-background people will broad your minds. You will see the world in new perception—a more beautiful one.

God created us in diversity not without a purpose.

The Training…

I’m coming back!!!

Hoh. It has been a long time since I’ve never felt this. Strong feeling to be a journalist, strong insting of hunting news, and strong interest that I’m really in my world. Yeah this is where I’m supposed to be and I come back again after such a long long time! Hoo…

Today Ami, Mas Ekak, and I attended Press Release Training at Hotel Pelangi. The speaker was Mr Husnun, Editor in Chief of Malang Post. (Just click http://husnun.wordpress.com) Hoo…guess how much time has passed since I’ve never joined any Journalistic Training and write a real news? In this past one year I did some useless things (study, for example—hahaha) and I lost my news-soul.

The last time I wrote news was about Wendy-senpai and that wasn’t important (and it hasn’t been released yet…Huaarrggghhh!) And know I really2 wanna report!!! With camera inside my sling bag and note plus pen in my hand. Walking around asking for people and observing the moment. Capture the news-valuable one and share ir to the world!!! Hoh. This is what I’m supposed to do. Too much time I’ve spent in front of PC screen, gazing courage-less to Economic e-book and try to memorize why Central Bank sell government bonds and how it effects the interest rate. HAHAHA. I’m sick of Macroenomic. It doesn’t mean I hate it, though. I just need some relax and alternate-activities and I wanna find my real soul. And news hunting is the answer. I’m a hunter, though…hahaha.

Mr Husnun’s good. He’s experienced journalist and we got some tips dealing with newspaper’s people. Most of the audience were Public Relations staff from companies.government in Malang, Batu, Pasuruan, Probolinggo, Sampang, etc. Think that we three was the youngest. Hahaha…student. And u know what? Mr Husnun was the one who came to Ma Chung last Thursday to meet Mrs Titiek. Think that he was the person who offered part-time job to Website Team/MCJC…Geez, I really can’t wait for that!!!

Though it didn’t really remind me to ‘amazing-burning’ Kompas Journalist Training I attended in high school, but it was enough to recall my journalist soul. I found my self wondering about basketball match at SSAW and I’m the one who running around the court, taking photos, and interview the guys. I’m tired but my face reminds satisfied. Hoh. Koyo’e aq lebayyy…hahaha.

I met some people interesting, one of them was Mr Teguh Widodo—herewith I introduced his blog: http://irteguhwidodo.wordpress.com He was alumni of SMAN 3 at 1984 and now he’s working for Wearness. And u know what? He’s Agung’s secret admirer!!! LOL For Anak Agung Ngurah Putra Adnyana from IT 2, hey I know u’ll read this and let me say that YOU HAVE FANS!!! Hwakakaka so keep ur blog updated, lazy punch!!! XD

As a result of the training, we have to make Press Release about our institution and it will appear at Malang Post. We three planned to write about SSAW. Just wait for our action!!! ^0~
